What are varicose veins?
Varicose veins can be raised, twisted or bulging on the surface, but they can also be hidden under the skin. They can cause the following symptoms:
- Pain and discomfort
- Dry itchy stained skin
- Varicose eczema and ulcers
- Swollen ankles
- Tenderness
- Cramp and restless legs
- Increased clotting risk
If you have any of these symptoms, you may benefit from a varicose vein assessment. We offer FULL diagnostic assessment, or a limited FREE screening test.
What happens at a Vein Specialist consultation at Skin Clinic Taranaki?
To provide the best treatment for your symptoms and care needs, at your visit our vein specialist will:
- take a detailed medical and symptom history
- undertake a visual examination of your legs
- carry out a full ultrasound mapping of the anatomy and function of your leg veins
- propose a treatment plan based on these results.
How do we treat varicose veins?
Our specialists use gold-standard, non-surgical techniques such as endovenous ablation and/or ultrasound guided sclerotherapy. These non-invasive techniques, carried out under local anaesthetic, close the varicose veins, enabling them to be slowly reabsorbed by your body.
As sedation is not required for treatment, you’ll be able to walk out of the clinic, drive yourself home, and if need be, return to work that day.
