Dr Gal Carmi is an experienced general practitioner with a special interest in skin cancer medicine, bringing more than 14 years of clinical experience to Skin Clinic Taranaki. Originally from Israel and now a proud New Plymouth resident for over a decade, Gal completed his medical training at Tel Aviv University and gained Fellowship of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (RNZCGP) in 2019. He also holds a Skin Cancer Medicine and Dermoscopy Certificate from the Australasian Skin Cancer College.
Over the past two years, Gal has focused specifically on skin cancer diagnosis, dermoscopy, and minor surgical treatment. He is passionate about the role early detection plays in achieving the best outcomes for patients and values the ability to accurately diagnose and promptly treat potentially high-risk skin cancers. His expertise in dermoscopy supports a high level of diagnostic accuracy, helping patients receive the right treatment at the right time.
Known for his respectful, attentive, and patient-centred approach, Gal believes in shared decision-making and ensuring every patient feels heard, informed, and involved in their care. Outside of work, he enjoys making the most of Taranaki’s outdoors through hiking, mountain biking, football, and basketball. Together with his wife and four children, he loves calling Taranaki home and appreciates the welcoming community, stunning natural environment, and unique combination of mountain and sea that make the region such a special place to live and work.
